Sorry dear readers, followers and fellow friends who has visited this blog, for my failure to update regularly. Been a bit hectic recently, all purely by my own doing, I've gotta admit. Been taking on more responsibilities onto my shoulders when I already am saddled with existing and undischarged ones.
Newest on the list is being the Syariah Committee for their first Annual Dinner. Am in charge of liaising with the hotels on venue, menus and themes. Venue will be MS Garden Hotel (yes, newly acquired by MUIP with some controversy attached to it as whispers of "duit zakat" is heard)
Also, the legal battle against Lynas has already taken off, with notices sent out to AELB and the Minister of Science Technology and Environment. Been out on the fields canvassing folks to volunteer as plaintiffs, signing warrant to act, attending meetings and researching on viable legal avenues to render legal assistance to the people of Kuantan in the Lynas matter. A judicial review will be filed soon, within next week when the notices expires.
worst case scenario in Lynas case? Hehehehe....
Okay, back to blog post title. My son, Hilman has just turned 14 recently. 11th February 1998, at 4:48pm I gave birth to this tall lanky lad at Kuantan Specialist Hospital. It was the most joyous moment of my life I'd say.
So 11th February this year, he is 14. Wowww... time sure flies when you are bringing up children.
Being the introvert that he is, he simply refuse a birthday bash with candle blowing antics and people milling around him wishing him well. So, we opted for a low key, family affair, in KL.
He received some ang pows from family members that he decided to spend on books. So we went to BookExcess in Amcorp Mall and he bought more Percy Jackson books and a few horror stories. The remainder of his birthday ang pow monies he wants to buy tools for his collection, as he has started collecting carpenteries paraphernalia. So far he has got his own drill set, a few drill bits and some mallet, screwdrivers, measuring tape and small little this and that courtesy of Grandpa and Abah.
dinner at Chilli's for birthday boy...
Well, as it is his birthday, let me just share with all you readers some of his embarrassing moments that only a mother knows. Hehehehe.... (wicked mother mode!) As if the episode of JoJo's death was not enough, erkkkk?
He has been going to Sek. Men. Paya Besar since early this year. Seems to like it here, as he volunteered to clean up their workshop, paint their class, all on Saturdays. He will bundle paint rollers, paint trays and knicks knacks into his big backpack and cycle to school to do them chores.
Would usually be back for lunch. Over lunch we will usually talk about his activities at school that morning and he will tell me about his chores and conversations with his friends in school.
One Saturday, a few weeks ago as we were gobbling down our lunch, he asked me: "mak, what is the difference between wife rasmi and porcupine?"
I stopped stuffing food into my mouth so that I can engage my ears properly as I could not phanthom what I just heard. I looked at him weirdly with eyebrows cocked and ears wide open.
gini hahhhh muka mak dengar soklan anak mak.....
My look prompted him to rephase his question again. "Kawan Abang Long kata, Raja-raja ada banyak isteri. Ada yang dipanggil isteri ada yang dipanggil porcupine. Ada beza ker mak?"
Adusssss. Anakanda ku, sebelum mak menjawab soklan anakanda tuh, izinkan dulu mak golek-golek ketawa berdekah-dekah atas lantai dapur kita ni Nak! Mujurlah mak dah telan abis nasi tadi bila anakanda tanya soklan cepumas nih, kalo tak, ada tercekik dah ni kot?
Muahahahaha....Its not porcupine lah Abang Long, its CONCUBINE! You have been talking to friends with lousy pronunciation of the word and now you come bring it back home. Don't blame me if I roll on the floor laughing at you. You can bring that friend home too, I need more entertaining people like you and your friends!
Bangun, basuh tangan, gi amik iPad,
buka Wikipedia
kat concubine
untuk dia and bagi dia baca. Untuk species-species yang macam Abang Long, link nyer ada di sini.
He read, and I could hear him chuckling underneath his breath. I asked him, "You want to look up porcupine too in Wikipedia?". He laughed and answered "I know its that prickly animal, but when we were talking about the royalty my friend tu confidently sebut porcupine, I thought it is the correct term lah mak."
Told you, his friends are top materials for Maharaja Lawak!
tanya kat Sultan, dah peluk gundik anda hari ini?
Another incident with this son of mine, (alang-alang nak buka aib dia kannnn?), was his conversation with Husna. I was my room, hanging my clothes in the cupboard. Door was open, they were in the family lounge, him reading book, Husna doing her homework. She was telling about them in school today, learning about landmarks of the world. About Sphinx and Pyramids are landmarks of Egypt, Taj Mahal is landmark of India and Great Wall of China is landmark of China. She then stuttered when it come to landmark of America and described it as ".... patung pompuan yang pegang obor tuh, apa nama yer Abang Long?"
Hilman pun confidently answered, " Ohhhh, that is Statue of Puberty lah....."
I dari dalam bilik, dengan suara bagai halilintar membelah bumi, yelled at Hilman "What did you just said Hilman? I heard that!"
He laughed, no guffawed loudly, and yelled back at me, " I was just joking lah mak. Its Statue of Liberty, I know. Just nak sakat Adik!"
And Adik, fed up with her Abang Long antics, picked up her books and went outside to play with her cats.
So, that's a small glimpse of life with my 14 year old son who conveniently renamed Statue of Liberty as Statue of Puberty. I pray to Allah that he will grow up to be a good Muslim, a good son, a good brother and a useful human being to his fellow human. Mak love both Abang Long and Adik, a lot.
Statue of Liberty, versi Mak......
